8 Months Today

Madelyn is 8 months today and getting so close to being able to crawl. We feel like the glasses are having such a positive affect on her development. She seems to be more social with us and strangers and will smile at people when they walk in the door. She also seems to be observing her little buddy, Luke, crawling all over the house and wanting to be more like him. I was anxious for her crawling to begin but now after watching Luke these few weeks with his new freedom of mobility, I am no longer in a hurry for Maddie to be getting into such mischief as well! They are playing so well together now and I just have to monitor that Luke doesn't try to pull her glasses off and mouth them (which has happened several times!).

We just got back from another trip to Mammoth and survived a big storm there! We were with the high school group from our church and had a good time getting to know the students better. I think it snowed 3 feet while we were there. Snow was literally blowing inside our room through the windows and door! Thankfully, all of our cars made it safely down the mountain once the high way opened up the day we left. Madelyn enjoyed having two 15 yr old boys to look at the entire ride home.

Wow! It's a whole new world for me and I think I like my new specs!

Big Brown Eyes

Well, take a last look at these big brown eyes because in about a week, they will be seeing through glasses! Yup, glasses at 7 months- it was a shocker to us. A couple days ago we took Madelyn to the opthamologist because she was still occasionally crossing her eyes. They determined that she does not have a crossed eye or lazy eye but rather extreme farsightedness. Her eyes appeared to cross because she was trying so hard to focus them. The dr. said it is 4 times as bad as a baby her age and that she needs to wear glasses all the time (except while she is sleeping and in the bath).

I have definitely gone through mixed emotions about this. I am sad to have this change of wearing glasses forever come on so suddenly. I realized that the glasses will become apart of her face and soon she will no longer look like Madelyn without them. I am thankful we caught it early and that I won't have the trials of transitioning her to glasses as a willful toddler. I was fortunate to find a good brand of frames online that are made for babies. They have flexible plastic and a soft band around the head. They will be good for her at this stage of rolling and face planting into the floor and are supposedly indestructible.

Ben and I are so thankful for Madelyn's health thus far and are thankful she will soon be able to see better. We are looking forward to the positive changes these glasses will bring to Maddie. The glasses come in about a week so we will definitely put up some new pics of little Madelyn.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Post

We had a great time celebrating Christmas with Madelyn's Grammy, Grandad, Aunt Reba and Uncle Robbie in Solvang at the grandparent's house. I had the week off from watching Luke and was able to stay up in Solvang that entire week. It was really nice to get to spend more time with Rebecca and Robert (the newlyweds!) and have Madelyn get to know them better.

We want to thank everyone who sent Maddie a present! I think it was more fun for Ben and I to open her presents than it was for Maddie :)
